Zach Nazzarett Joins Windy City Storm to Supercharge Youth Hockey Development in Chicago
CHICAGO, IL – The Windy City Storm are thrilled to announce the appointment of Zach Nazzarett as Director of Youth Hockey Programs and Head Coach for our 8U and 10U teams. Nazzarett joins the Storm following a successful playing career, bringing a fresh perspective and elite-level intensity to the Chicago hockey market.

A Proven Path: Nazzarett’s path from Tier-I to Pro hockey
Zach Nazzarett isn’t just teaching the game; he has lived it at every milestone. He has walked the exact path our Storm players aspire to travel themselves. From the rigors of Tier-I youth hockey to the USHL, and onto NCAA Division-I hockey at Long Island University. Most recently, Zach has been competing at the professional level in Europe, currently concluding his final season in Germany.
This "player-first" perspective allows Zach to connect with young athletes in a way few coaches can. He understands the modern game, the evolution of skill development, and the mental toughness required to climb the ladder of competitive hockey.

Engraining ‘pro habits’ at the 8U–12U development levels
In his role as Director of Youth Hockey Programs, Zach will oversee the critical developmental window from 8U through 12U.
"The ages of 8 to 12 are the most vital years for a hockey player’s foundation," says Mark Jalcovik, president of the Windy City Storm. "Zach’s arrival is going to supercharge our development model. He is hungry, he is passionate, and he brings a 'pro-habits' mindset to our youngest age groups. We aren’t just looking for a coach; we are looking for a leader to set the standard for athleticism, hockey sense, and skill for years to come."
More Than a Player: Nazzarett embraces the coaching mindset
Zach’s transition into coaching is already well underway. While playing for EHF Passau in Germany, he took on the role of Player-Assistant Coach, specifically managing special teams units—a rare responsibility for an active player. During his off-seasons, he has served as a lead instructor for Between the Pipes Hockey, honing his ability to communicate complex skills to youth players.
Furthermore, Zach holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management & Psychology from LIU, providing him with a unique academic toolkit to understand the mental development and motivation of young athletes.
‘A Fresh Face for Chicago’ brings new ideas and philosophies
While Zach is a new face to the Chicago hockey landscape, his arrival marks a significant shift for the Windy City Storm. By bringing in a leader who is fresh off the professional game, the Storm are ensuring that its players are receiving the most current, innovative, and enthusiastic instruction available.
"I am incredibly honored to join the Windy City Storm," says Nazzarett. "My goal is to bring an unmatched level of energy and a structured, professional approach to player development. We are going to build a foundation of skill and hockey IQ that will serve these players for the rest of their lives."
Zach will be on-site in Chicago early this spring to begin leading the charge for the upcoming season. Please join us in welcoming Zach Nazzarett to the Storm family!
