Team TPH Returns to the OHL Cup

For years, TPH has been one of the very few U.S.-based entries invited to the OHL Cup. Their history is defined by the “Instant Chemistry” challenge. While most teams at the Scotiabank Pond have played 60+ games together, the TPH roster often consists of players from Michigan, Nashville, Chicago, and beyond who might only have one or two practices together before the puck drops.

The Official OHL Cup publication shares, “A staple at the tournament, TPH Hockey returns, having competed annually since 2007. Following a run to last year’s quarter-finals, the program continues its proven track record of advancing players to the next level. Notable TPH alumni who transitioned through the OHL to reach the National Hockey League include Jack Studnicka, Alec Regula, and Kevin Labanc.”

The most recent chapter in TPH history is also its most successful. In the 2025 OHL Cup, Team TPH didn’t just show up—they dominated.

  • The Record: They posted a perfect 4-0 record in the round-robin stage.

  • The Milestone: They earned a berth in the quarterfinals, marking one of the most successful runs in program history.

  • The Impact: This performance led to a record-setting year at the draft, with 17 TPH-connected players selected in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection.

The story of TPH at the OHL Cup is really about their preparation. They are known for a “pro-style” approach. Head Coach Francis Anzalone shares, “When our players reach the next level, we want them to look back and feel like our approach prepared them for success on their individual journeys. Through video, practice, and in-game coaching, players will be physically and mentally prepared to showcase their skill sets once the puck drops. Our coaching staff will implement an appropriate amount of structure so that our group takes on the look and feel of a TEAM as quickly as possible.”

By integrating professional preparation with high-stakes exposure, TPH transforms a roster of distant strangers into a unified force. Before even stepping foot in Toronto, players study a “concept of play” manual and attend strategic Zoom sessions to ensure they arrive in sync. This meticulous preparation turns their games into a primary magnet for scouts, who flock to see elite U.S. talent that rarely competes on Ontario soil. Ultimately, TPH serves as the definitive bridge, allowing premier American athletes to prove themselves head-to-head against the very Canadian competition they’ll face if they choose the OHL path.

“I thought the experience was amazing and couldn’t have been more professional. It was definitely one hell of a ride. Thank you so much for the opportunity.”

“I appreciated being treated like a professional with the video sessions, team walks, and expectations on the players.  The coaches really brought the team together quickly so we could compete with the high-level teams.”
