The Next Chapter Starts Here: Dominick Procopio Joins TPH Huntsville and NAHA Leadership
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Total Package Hockey Huntsville (TPH Huntsville) and the North Alabama Hockey Association (NAHA) are proud to announce the appointment of Dominick Procopio as Director of Youth Travel Hockey, adding an accomplished player, proven leader, and respected member of the Huntsville hockey community to a key leadership position within the organization.
Procopio joins TPH Huntsville and NAHA following a distinguished playing career that includes five seasons with the Huntsville Havoc, where he served as team captain and established himself as one of the Southern Professional Hockey League’s premier defensemen. Known for his leadership, professionalism, and commitment to team culture, he brings a unique combination of high-level playing experience and a deep understanding of the North Alabama hockey landscape.
“Dom was the best captain I played for in all my professional career,” said Huntsville Havoc forward and TPH alumnus Josh Kestner.
Huntsville Havoc Head Coach Stuart Stefan added, “He’s amazing in his own zone, a great leader, and a physical player.” (Huntsville Havoc)
“Dom is a high-character guy. Since his rookie year, I was able to see his on and off-ice leadership and his growth into a true leader of our team,” shared Assistant Coach Tyler Piacentini. (Huntsville Havoc)
A native of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Procopio’s hockey journey includes three seasons in the NAHL, where he captained the Shreveport Mudbugs to a Robertson Cup Championship while earning Defenseman of the Year honors and multiple league awards. He continued his career at UMass Lowell, competing for three seasons in Hockey East before moving on to the professional ranks. Procopio also trained with TPH Detroit during his development, providing him with firsthand experience and a deep understanding of the TPH philosophy and its holistic approach to athlete development.
“I’m excited to join TPH Huntsville and help lead the next chapter of youth hockey in North Alabama,” said Procopio. “Having experienced the TPH model as a player, I understand the impact strong coaching and mentorship can have on an athlete’s development. Throughout my career in junior, college, and professional hockey, I’ve learned lessons I’m eager to share with players and families. I’m grateful to the Huntsville Havoc organization, my teammates, coaches, and fans who made this city feel like home, and I look forward to continuing to serve the Huntsville hockey community in this new role.”
As Director of Youth Travel Hockey, Dom will oversee the development and growth of the entire competitive youth hockey pathway within TPH Huntsville and NAHA. His focus will be on building a culture that develops skilled athletes, confident leaders, and lifelong participants in the game while creating clear pathways for players and families to pursue their goals both on and off the ice.
“Dom represents the values and standards we want throughout our organization,” said Tony Guzzo, President of NAHA and University of Alabama-Huntsville all-time leading scorer. “He has demonstrated excellence as a player, captain, and leader in our community. Most importantly, he understands how to build relationships, develop people, and create an environment where players can thrive. We are excited to have him leading the next chapter of youth hockey in North Alabama.”
Procopio joins TPH Huntsville Director and Head of Hockey Martin Kubaliak, another former Huntsville Havoc standout who has played a key role in the growth of the NAHA program for over five years. Together, they will continue building a premier development pathway for North Alabama players through elevated coaching, consistent development standards, and expanded opportunities on and off the ice.
Families, coaches, players, and community members interested in connecting with Dom are encouraged to reach out directly at dprocopio@tphacademy.com to learn more about youth hockey opportunities, player development programs, and the future of hockey in North Alabama.
