ABOUT THE OHL CUP
The OHL Cup is an annual event that takes place in early March at the ScotiaBank Pond in Toronto, Ontario. The tournament includes 20 teams from across Ontario and the United States. The champions and finalists from minor hockey associations in Ontario, including the GTHL, OMHA, ODMHA, ALLIANCE, and an NOHA representative will participate in the tournament with additional teams identified by the Tournament Selection Committee.
TPH’s goal with elite prospects programs like the OHL Cup is to create a short-term development experience unlike any other, through positive, hands-on coaching, a professional presentation and operation, and most importantly, education on the “process” of being a high-level hockey player, athlete, person and TEAM.
While individual exposure is a big part of the OHL Cup experience, it will be a byproduct of the emphasis placed on being a TEAM, that for five days, is made up of individuals who learn what it means to do things the right way. Simply put, as an organization, TPH seeks to use events like the OHL Cup to develop the individual while building a sense of TEAM- a team that “looks” like it has been together all season. The more together the group “looks,” the better the outcome for everyone involved.
A professional coaching staff, team practice, an opening player and parent meeting, structured, daily video sessions, team meals, pre-game energy snacks, admission to the OHL Cup banquet, a presentation to Team TPH from the OHL and a formal itinerary highlight some of the experiences of representing TPH in the event, not to mention, competition against the best teams from across Ontario.
Since the 2007 OHL Cup, TPH has had over 100 players drafted as a result of participation in this event, including current OHL’ers Tag Bertuzzi (NHL Central Scouting ranked #29 for 2019 NHL Draft), Jack Studnicka (Boston Bruins 2nd Round Selection, 2017 NHL Draft) and Alec Regula (Detroit Redwings 3rd Round Selection, 2018 NHL Draft).
Team TPH is comprised of players from within TPH programs, who have been deemed “prospects” by OHL Central Scouting, as well as players placed on Team TPH by OHL Central Scouting. All invitations come directly from the OHL Central Scouting department.
