The goal of the OHA High Performance Program is to provide an educational learning and hockey experience that will entertain over 100 of the top junior and minor hockey prospects from all across Ontario. Through an elite staff of junior, college, university and professional coaches, each player will benefi t from various opportunities to learn from people who have been there as players and/or coaches and who can inform these prospects on what they look for when recruiting for their programs.
The OHAHP has been designed by the OHA to educate players and parents on the opportunities that exist, how to properly position yourself as a player to take advantage of the opportunities and what will be expected of you at the next level.
Coaches: All coaches are experienced OHA Jr. Coaches from a variety of teams in the OHA. These coaches are committed to share their knowledge, experience and expertise in order to challenge each player throughout the weekend and prepare them for the decisions ahead.
Evaluators: the OHAHP evaluators are hockey knowledgeable people from all areas of the game; Jr. Coaches, OHL, NCAA coaches, NHL scouts, player agents, professional players, goalie coaches. Player’s are evaluated on a variety of criteria during each game, the evaluator’s data and notes are submitted, calculated and feedback is given to each player during their exit interview before leaving the OHAHP on Sunday afternoon.
On-Ice Training Program:
All players will take part in an intense team practice on Friday evening; practice is conducted by an OHL or Professional coach. On Saturday morning all players will test their on-ice skills during a series of skating, agility and puck control drills. The OHAHP Tournament will take place on Saturday afternoon and Sunday where each team will play 4 games followed by the OHAHP Awards Ceremony that takes place between the conciliation final and championship game.
Off-Ice Conditioning Program:
On Friday evening all players will go through hockey specific off-ice drills that will push a player’s speed, agility, power as well as overall conditioning. Experts in the field of hockey specific training will perform off-ice sessions on all the players at the OHAHP. Our goal is to educate players on the importance of off-ice training during both the off-season and during the season.
In-Class Program:
Throughout the weekend players and parents will attend In-class sessions featuring keynote speakers in a variety of hockey specific fields including the NHL, OHA, OHL, CIS, NCAA and Professional hockey, Sport Nutrition, Sport Conditioning, Player Agents, Scouts and more. A variety of hockey careers will be presented and discussed through each speaker’s experiences and knowledge in their area. Parents are HIGHLY encouraged to attend these seminars to help their son make the most educated decision.
Sports Psychology:
All players and parents will be exposed to the importance of Sport Psychology in hockey. During the Sport Psychology session players will work directly with Dr. Shauna Burke (Published Sports Psychologist with UWO) on a variety of mental skills including: mental toughness, performance profiling and goal setting, overcoming adversity, mentally preparing for games, staying focused and much more. This program will provide players with new mental tools to giving them the edge over their competition leading into next season.
